Evolution of “Walking Forwards”

“Walking Forwards” is a public commission with the brief of a welcoming, affectionate sculpture , positioned beside the Northampton hospital main entrance. It reflects the care and dedication that goes on inside a hospital, and adds warmth and human drama to a what may otherwise feel like a foreboding .

In 2019, a  first version was shown in my garden as part of the OAW open studio scheme. I then improved the sculpture in my garden under a gazebo, by reshaping it with adding plasticine; the casters made the mould in the garden, and created two casts of it in their workshop nearby.

In 2021, “Walking Forwards 2” was installed  in front of the hospital, as part of a newly developed entrance area.

I also sold a cast to a private customer in  a property overlooking Henley-on-Thames; and to a customer in Japan with his own sculpture park as part of his wine business.

It had been exhibited in 2021 at the Dorset sculpture park “Sculpture by the Lakes”.
