The dark side of the face, 1999
Bronze Resin Height of 90cm – SOLD
The title of this abstracted head sculpture refers to the famous Pink Floyd song about the invisible un un-knowable side of the moon. Just like in that song, the left side of the face , convex and balloon-like is juxtaposed with the right side, which is dark and hidden on account of its deep concave surface and cave-like space.
This sculpture refers in a visually convincing manner to my psychoanalytic interest in the “unconscious”, Freudian, Jungian and other kinds: knowing that you don’t know half of yourself and others. You can only fleetingly discover it in moment of crisis, to vanish again as quickly as it appeared.
