Surging Up, 2014
Polystyrene and Plaster (Height 230cm)
This large abstract sculpture , suitable for public or architectonic commissions was initially based on a tree, as a vertical form moving water and nutrition upwards into the crown. The sculpture then evolved into the more generalised theme of dynamic energy (water) surging out of the ground and spreading in all direction, falling downward like a fountain’s spray.
Simultaneously I embodied the sensuality and solidity of the human figure into this abstract form . In this way, through sinuous curves and expansive gestures, the sculpture is morphing unrelated elements and conflicting views into one cohesive form: a trunk channeling the invisible energies from underground, leaves for fruit reminiscent of a breaching whales tail in mid-air, and a windblown tree.
