Self – Protecting 1990

Bronze Resin  63 x 20 x 27cm – £1950

Originally carved from stone, this tightly squeezed figurative sculpture only just fitted into that thin rectangular stone block I selected.

That lack of space partially explains the intensity and determination of the defensive posture of self-hugging: when help or rescue is not forthcoming, one needs to look inward to find containment, and inner resources.
