This classic abstract head sculpture has been re-created on three occasions. In that process , its expression changed from ruthless ambition to something softer, more rounded, and more realistic and three dimensional.
Originally, this stylish head was indebted to Cycladic sculptures of faces – with no features at all but the nose; as it evolved , first eyes, then a mouth appeared. The rounded surfaces are contrasted with the flat and angular planes of nose and ears. I used sleek, elegant lines, especially visible from the profile, to describe speed, ambition and confidence.
This sculpture is a favourite particularly in Germany , to which it has been sold three times.
