Tumbling 1+2+3, 2003
Bronze Resin all three sculptures for £2600
With all of my three small figurative sculptures entitled “Tumbling” I set my intention to fix three fleeting moments within one succession of movements, that probably in real life would escape one’s notice because of its speed.
On an emotional level, I wanted to focus on a natural movement, in which one looses momentarily control . One might possibly feel helpless, or alternatively be filled with a pleasurable sense of dizziness, and certainly a loss of the habitual upright perspective on life. One is thrown into life , caught in movement – rather than standing ( or sitting) above it .
To me, it appears that falling is diametrically opposed to standing : it looks more spontaneous, unintended, possibly undignified and un-heroic.
