Bronze Resin 26 x 18 x12 cm  –  £1350

I created this figurative bronze sculpture when the TV news were full of refugee stories – in this case Albanians fleeing their homes from the Serbians.

It made me reflect about the vital and primordial bonds of family, something that matters equally in peaceful times too. Family relationships are different from those to friends or colleagues. One’s family is “one’s tribe”: often hard to disentangle from one’s own identity, family bonds and loyalty are the strongest, even if not always comfortable.

This family I portray – two women, one man, and two children – seek closeness with each other, reassurance and protection. Despite that close family huddle, each member exists on their own terms, with their very own personal perspective: looking into different directions, into the group or away from it .
